About

My work is rooted in a spiritual engagement with the natural environment, exploring emotional responses to place, light and atmosphere while maintaining a strong connection to the material qualities of photography.

I’m based in Whitby, North Yorkshire, in the UK. Born in Liverpool, I studied at Trent Polytechnic in the 1970s, where I developed my foundation in photography and darkroom practice. After periods living in Nottingham and London, I settled in Whitby over three decades ago.

A varied working life has included roles as a landscape gardener and youth worker, before establishing a career in graphic design. For 25 years I have run a small design studio specialising in work for museums, galleries and arts organisations.

Over the past ten years, my photographic practice has become central to my creative life. Working primarily in black and white, and using both digital and analogue processes, I develop, scan and print my work and I’m particularly interested in the photobook as a photographic medium.​
